Antarctica: Looking south
Photo series by Daniel Aldo Gomez
(Download CV in PDF format 54KB)

We all want to go to Antarctica. But much more the photographers and biologists! the first one because they have the opportunity to grant their eyes some of the most wonderful landscapes, lights and shades of the planet, the second ones because they can tour one of the last shelters of the earth, where fauna does not fear man, where on the natural forces of primeval rules. From my place as a photographer- biologist I felt the need to capture first of all the beauty of Antarctica “how not to when it’s the first thing that catches your eye?”

It is such a natural process that it is taken back to the remote origins of photography: When wanting to capture an image to share, to want to transmit what the photographer felt at that moment, with the hope that the other tips that the other feels the same” The force and presence of nature in Antarctica is so big that it is impossible not to fall on its spell. You cannot stop to be amazed every instant. Every meter covered, each rock, piece of ice, penguin offer infinitive of visual possibilities. The moment of every hour grants subtle changes of light that stimulates you to photograph what has already been pictured.

The task to picture Antarctica becomes such a pleasurable exercise as tiring. It is difficult to lower the camera but great is the reward. After travelling to Antarctica imaginary or in real life you have a higher conscious of the need to keep conserving this wonderful spot intact. Visiting Antarctica is a privileged that only a few have wanting it or not a huge responsibility. The responsibility as human beings to do everything we can to protect is future integrity. Shall it be done.
